Making healthy choices has become a challenging and complex task.
Consumers are inundated with clever food marketing strategies, contrasting opinions and messages, and constant exposure to temptations such as low cost food that is energy dense and nutrient poor. Eating was once a very straight forward and natural thing to do but these days it causes a lot of people a great amount of stress and confusion.
A staggering 63.4% of Australian adults were overweight or obese in 2014-15, so you’re certainly not alone if you’re struggling in this area.
But it really doesn’t have be complicated… eat food that gives you a good dose of nutrients and makes you feel good, both physically and mentally.
“It’s easy for you”… is probably a thought that runs through most people’s heads when they speak to a nutritionist about their diet and food choices. But don’t be fooled, I used to be dead-set addicted to Lift, am partial to a Lindt ball (or five) and find the smell of fast-food just as tempting as everyone else.
Knowing what an excessive intake of sugar, sodium, saturated/trans fats and chemicals will do to my insides is reason enough for me to avoid these temptations (most of the time). For that reason I fill my fridge, pantry and bag (yes, you need to be prepared) with healthy food items, so unhealthy options are not around to tempt me when I’m peckish or bored.
